Five major standards for LED bead performance testing

2023-09-11

1. Optical characteristics

Mainly including luminous flux and luminous efficiency, intensity and intensity dispersion characteristics, as well as spectral parameters.

Luminous flux and luminous efficiency: There are usually two methods, namely the integrating sphere method and the variable angle photometer method. Although the latter produces the most accurate test results, the former is generally used due to its longer duration. When using the integration ball method for testing, the tested LED lamp beads can be placed at the center of the ball or on the wall of the ball. After measuring the luminous flux, the cooperative electrical parameter tester can measure the luminous power, also known as the luminous efficiency, of LED beads.

Light intensity and light intensity dispersion characteristics: LED beads have inconsistent light intensity dispersion, so their test results change with the size of the test distance and detector aperture. This allows each LED bead to undergo light intensity testing and evaluation under the same conditions, making the results more accurate.

Spectral parameters: primarily including peak emission wavelength, spectral radiation bandwidth, and spectral power dispersion. The spectral characteristics of LED beads can be represented by spectral power dispersion, and through spectral power dispersion, chromaticity parameters can also be obtained. The general test of spectral power dispersion requires spectroscopic analysis, which distinguishes the monochromatic light in the mixed light one by one for measurement. Prisms and gratings can be used to achieve spectroscopic analysis.

2. Electrical characteristics

The electrical characteristics parameters of LED beads include forward current, forward voltage, reverse current, and reverse voltage. This test is usually conducted using a voltage and current meter under constant current and voltage source power supply. After testing the electrical characteristics of LEDs, the maximum allowable forward voltage, forward current, and reverse voltage, current and other parameters can be obtained. In addition, the optimal operating power value for the maximum LED value can also be obtained.

3. Switching characteristics

It refers to the light, electricity, and color change characteristics of LED beads at the moment of power on and off. Through this test, the operating conditions, material properties, and other change rules of LED beads at the moment of power on and off can be obtained, thus understanding the loss of LED beads caused by power on and off.
